This week I took the RH401 Red Hat Enterprise Deployment, Virtualization, and Systems Management aka RHN Satellite and Xen Hopefully the next one I get won't be a year later. Here is the certificate of expertise..

Congrats!

I have prep my exam 401 as well by installing testing one on my lab server. Unfortunately, it
requires redhat satellite certificate while I install software. It prevents me to get through and
understand how newer version installation process looks like.

I took the class since 2007. It was pretty old to compare with the exam today...

Can you tell what version of redhat satellite server use at exam? Can you suggest me
something that I can prep my exam properly and be successful like your are? :-)

wow it's probably too late for me to help you, but the version of satellite the course I took was based on 5.1 and I think since I took it they have updated the course to use satellite 5.3 which is very different.

congrats!!!

today i enrolled for rh401. As i am working i get hardly 3hr to prepare for the exam.
if you could share your experience about preparation it will be very helpful.

any reference books before i attend the training as i have heard that material will be provided only on the training day. almost 20 days left for training and exam please advise.

I don't know any books you

I don't know any books you can use, but if you can find documentation on doing all of the tasks listed on the prep guide you can learn how to do those things ahead of time.

If you feel comfortable with all those bulleted points you will probably be able to pass the exam.

I really recommend building many simple RPMs to practice. One tip on the spec file, you don't have to memorize the syntax, simply install emacs and open any file name that ends in .rpm and it will open a template with the spec file syntax already laid out. If you don't like emacs you can copy paste out of that into vim or whatever you prefer.

To build example RPMs I suggest you take simple packages like antiword or dos2unix and write the spec files for them.. You can see my example of antiword here:

Good Luck!

yup, the emacs trick is a great one. Unfortunately I didn't know about this trick until after I had memorized it. In newer versions of vim you can do the same thing. RHEL 5 doesn't have a vim new enough to do it though, so you must resort to using emacs. ;-)
